What is Codex?

Codex is an online reading journal: find a book, rate it out of 5, write down what you thought of it, build your top list and follow what your friends are reading.

The site is free, ad-free and tracker-free. It was born from a simple wish: to keep track of your reading and share your favorites, the way Letterboxd does for movies.

Personal data

To run the site, Codex stores:

Your email address is never displayed or shared with third parties; it is only used to sign you in and send you emails about your account (confirmation, forgotten password). However, your username, your photo and your library (ratings and reviews included) are public: that is the whole idea of the site.

This data is kept as long as your account exists. Under the GDPR, you can at any time ask to access, correct or delete it, or to delete your account, by writing to contact@codexby.app. You can also file a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).

Cookies

Codex uses no advertising cookies and no audience measurement tools. Only essential technical information is stored in your browser to keep you signed in and remember your chosen language; it does not require consent.

Books and covers

Book information (titles, authors, covers) comes from Open Library and Google Books. Covers remain the property of their publishers and rights holders; they are shown for illustration purposes. For any removal request, write to contact@codexby.app.
